Newborn Photography in Southern Maine & Greater Portland

Welcome, I am so glad you are here! If you’re looking for a relaxed & enjoyable newborn session, you are in the right place! I would be truly honored to capture such a precious time for you.

My approach is relaxed, natural, and baby-led, with gentle guidance throughout. You can expect a mix of candid moments and softly posed images that highlight all the tiny, meaningful details of these early days.

Newborn lifestyle sessions are never rushed, and I always follow baby’s lead to ensure a calm, comfortable experience for everyone.

Sessions take place in the comfort of your home or in a light-filled studio located in the mills in Biddeford (there is an additional charge for studio sessions). I serve families within 30 minutes of Portland, Maine.

When to book?

Planning your session around those first precious weeks

I recommend scheduling newborn lifestyle sessions within the first two weeks after baby’s arrival, though I’ve photographed newborns up to 3 months old and those sessions are just as beautiful.

We’ll book a tentative date based on your due date and adjust if needed once baby arrives - there is never a fee to reschedule a newborn session.

Newborn sessions are typically held Tuesday–Friday at 10 or 11 AM. I reserve a 2-hour window to allow plenty of time for feeding and diaper-change breaks.

What to wear?

Styling

Choose clothing that feels natural and relaxed for everyone - neutral colors and soft tones work best - think creams, browns, beige, earth tones.

Avoid bright colors, prints & logos. You want to coordinate with your family, not match.

Keep baby in simple and neutral clothing for the session - think soft onesies or swaddles. I recommend having a few extra options on hand in case we need a quick change. I’ll also bring a selection of neutral swaddles, wraps, and bows for you to use during the session.

Preparing Your Home for Your Session

Small touches that make a big difference in your photos

Decide which areas of your home you’d like to use for your session—common options include the nursery, primary bedroom, kitchen, and living room. I photograph using natural light first, so choosing spaces with good light is key. This helps create the soft, warm feel you see in my images.

No need for a perfectly clean home - just a quick tidy in the areas we’ll use. Clearing items like nightstands, dressers, countertops, end tables, and cords helps keep the focus on your beautiful family.

Feeding & Comfort

Setting the tone for a relaxed, sleepy baby during your session

Try to keep your little one awake for about an hour before the session - gentle playtime or a bath can help with this.

Feeding baby right before I arrive (or as I’m setting up) can encourage a full, sleepy baby, but I’ll always pause for feeding whenever needed.

Keeping your home warm, around 75°F, also helps baby stay cozy and relaxed throughout the session.

Who can join me?

Your family, your story

Parents and siblings are always welcome and so encouraged - these sessions are about your whole family and the connection you share.

We’ll often begin with everyone together, then ease into moments with siblings and baby, letting things unfold naturally from there. Every session is a little different, and I gently follow your family’s rhythm to capture what feels most true to you.

How do I book?

I'm so excited to connect!

First, you will find out my inquiry form on my contact page. I will email you back within 48 hours and we will chat about your vision and timeframe.

Once we settle on a date, time and location - I will email you my booking paperwork. This includes my contract invoice and questionnaire. A $75 retainer is due at the time of booking which will be applied to the total that is due the day before the session.

Once your retainer is paid and contract is signed, you will offically be booked!

KIND WORDS
Black and white portrait of a mother tenderly holding her sleeping newborn baby close to her face.
Emily did our newborn photos and they were absolutely beautiful. From the moment we met her, she was so kind, patient, and easy to connect with. She made the entire experience feel calm and stress-free, which meant so much during those early newborn days. I felt completely at ease trusting her with our baby, and it truly shows in the photos. We will cherish these images forever and can’t recommend Emily enough.

We had the absolute best experience with Emily for our daughter’s in-home newborn photo shoot. She was warm, welcoming, and made us feel instantly comfortable. Emily has a calm, easygoing presence and gently guided us through the session, helping with poses and finding the perfect angles and light. She was also incredibly patient throughout the experience - that level of care and flexibility meant so much to us.

We plan on continuing to use her services as our family grows!

Highly recommend!
